Last weekend I had the chance to spend a couple of hours at the 31st Firelands Area Restorers of Machinery (F.A.R.M.) Show in New London, Ohio, and it was time well spent! The annual event, held Friday through Sunday, brought together people of all ages who share a love for preserving the tractors, engines, and farm equipment that helped build rural America.
The picture, above, is a restored Ford 2000, with my son, Tim, behind it.
I stopped by for about an hour on Friday and another hour on Sunday, and one of the highlights was visiting with Holden Nuhn. He shared the story behind his restoration of two beautiful Farmall tractors. The craftsmanship and attention to detail were amazing, and I hope to share a short video interview with him later this week.
Also, I have to admit, it makes me really happy to see those fabulous machines and in plain English read "Made in America" right on the metal.
I also had the opportunity to talk with Karter Mancuso (not pictured here), a talented young man who restored a classic Ford tractor. It looked fantastic! Seeing younger generations take an interest in preserving agricultural history is encouraging and gives hope that these traditions will continue for years to come.
There were tractors and engines from many different manufacturers, including several I had never seen or even heard of before. Every display had its own story, making it a great learning experience.
Sunday's 10:00 a.m. parade was another favorite. Watching the restored tractors roll through the grounds was a wonderful reminder of the pride and dedication that goes into keeping these machines running for future generations.
If you missed this year's F.A.R.M. Show, I highly recommend putting it on your calendar for next year. And if you're looking for another great event, I hear the Silver King Show begins this Friday in Plymouth, Ohio.
